Liverpool edging nearer to new Salah contract

Mohamed Salah is on the verge of resolving his long-term Liverpool future.

Salah’s current deal at Anfield is set to expire at the end of this season alongside those of fellow first-team mainstays Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

All three players have been free to negotiate Bosman transfers with non-English clubs since January but none have formally struck any agreements elsewhere.

Negotiations with the Reds’ trio have been ongoing for several months, with Van Dijk recently revealing that there had been ‘progress’ on his own contract talks.

The Egypt international has made no secret of his desire to remain on Merseyside with several public declarations while continuing to excel for the club this season.

He described himself as ‘probably more out than in’ towards the end of last year with no tangible progress made in discussions with the Anfield hierarchy at that time.

But it is understood Salah is now set to follow the captain in extending his stay with Arne Slot’s side following similarly productive discussions with his representatives.

Although both over the age of 30, Salah and Van Dijk have been instrumental to Liverpool’s Premier League title surge as virtual ever-presents in the starting XI.

The former Roma and Chelsea forward has been in imperious form with 27 goals in 31 appearances as Slot’s side hold a 11-point head over Arsenal in the title race.
