Arne Slot delivers first Liverpool game verdict

Arne Slot has delivered his verdict after overseeing his first Liverpool game.

Slot handed run-outs to 25 players during a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End in Friday’s behind-closed-doors friendly at the club’s AXA Training Centre.

Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones were among those to feature in the Reds’ first action since the Dutchman succeeded Jurgen Klopp.

And Slot admits he was encouraged by his new charges’ output despite the result to the Championship stalwarts not being the desired one.

He said: “After two weeks of tough training sessions it’s important to play a game as well.

“The most important thing is that everybody was fit before the game and they stayed fit during the game as well – so, it’s been a good two weeks.

“Unfortunately the result was not what we wanted, but they stayed fit, many of them got minutes, also a lot of young players got a few minutes so that was a good thing.”
