Liverpool post £9m loss in 2022/23 accounts

Liverpool have posted pre-tax losses of £9 million for the 2022/23 season.

Thursday’s announcement of the Anfield club’s annual accounts saw an upturn in several areas from the previous campaign. including matchday and commercial revenue.

But the Reds also suffered diminished returns on media income, which fell by £19m to £242m with their earlier Champions League knockout exit cited as driving factor.

Also factored in was the signings of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Calvin Ramsey in addition to the repurchasing of their former Melwood base for the women’s team.

The expansion of the Anfield Road Stand, taking the stadium’s capacity over 61,000, was a heavily contributing factor to Liverpool’s bank debt rising by £49M to £123M.

Andy Hughes, Liverpool’s managing director, said: “While these financial results are a moment in time on our journey, what remains constant is the growing global appeal of the club.

“And thanks to our amazing support, LFC continues to be the most-globally-followed club in the Premier League.

“We look forward to the remainder of this season with our men’s and women’s teams finishing as strongly as possible with continuing success.”
