Hugo Ekitike has spoken for the first time about his Achilles tendon injury.

It was confirmed on Thursday that the Liverpool forward will miss the remainder of the current season as well as any involvement in France’s World Cup campaign.

Ekitike faces an extended spell on the sidelines after Arne Slot’s side detailing the extent of his injury from Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Paris Saint-Germain.

Shortly after the news was made official, the 23-year-old took to social media to thank Reds fans for their support as he embarks on a long road to recovery.

“It’s hard, maybe even unfair,” wrote Ekitike.

“But I’m grateful this is happening to me here, among you. I’m not alone.

“Your strength and your love will be my driving force.

“See you again soon, Anfield.”
