Thiago Alcantara is facing a fresh spell on the sidelines for Liverpool.
The Spain international only made a long-awaited return for Jurgen Klopp’s side during last weekend’s 3-1 reversal to Premier League title rivals Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp revealed ahead of last week’s clash with Chelsea that the 32-year-old had made steps towards his return to action by rejoining training.
But Thiago has suffered a new setback as his substitute appearance after suffering a muscle issue in his second-half cameo at the Emirates Stadium.
His comeback coincided with the 12-month anniversary since making a last start for the Reds before a hip problem required corrective surgery in April.
Thiago’s four-year stay at Anfield is expected to draw to a close this summer when the midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
