Liverpool are braced for Joel Matip being ruled out for a spell with injury.

Matip became the latest causality in the Anfield club’s defence after suffering a suspected knee issue late on in Sunday’s breathless 4-3 win over Fulham.

The Cameroon international is set to join Reds’ teammates Alisson and Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajectic and Diogo Jota on the sidelines.

And Jurgen Klopp admits Matip’s absence is anticipated to be a considerable one.

He said: “We lost today Joel.

“We obviously have no pictures yet, no scan yet.

“But from what you hear and can see, that will not be a short one.

“Unlucky, but we have to just get through this.”
