Thiago Alcantara is set to stay at Liverpool after talks with Jurgen Klopp.
The Spain international appeared at risk of becoming the latest Anfield stalwart to depart in favour of the fledging Saudi Pro League this summer.
A reunion with Roberto Firmino was touted at Al-Ahli although the Reds received no bids for Thiago, who is in the final 12 months of his currnet deal
But Klopp confirmed on Friday that the 32-year-old will remain part of his plans following productive discussions between the pair during pre-season.
“He’s now training, he came in and asked about his role and we spoke,” said Klopp.
“Super experienced player, he stepped up in that department. He has only been in team training for a week, but very vocal.
“He is going to be very helpful for us.”
