Liverpool will not cut Arthur’s loan short despite a potential long-term injury.

Arthur joined Jurgen Klopp’s side on transfer deadline day as part of a season-long loan designed to provide cover to the club’s midfield department.

But the Brazil international has played only 14 senior minutes for the Reds, with his main action coming in the under-21s before suffering a muscle tear.

An initial prognosis saw Arthur forecast would be sidelined for up to four months, which had led to claims that Anfield chiefs may cut his deal short.

Klopp, however, insists that the 26-year-old will continue his rehabilitation on Merseyside while also hinting that his lay-off could be longer than first feared.

“He’s here [for recovery]. It’s a long-term injury,” said Klopp.

“When he’s back, we will think about it again but in the moment it’s too far away.

“I have no idea how long it will be but it will be long.

“It’s a serious injury.”
