Premier League trophy team to be at Anfield

The Premier League will send a trophy presentation team to Liverpool’s final home game of the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit a point behind Manchester City, who are expected to retain the title with a home win against Aston Villa this weekend.

A draw for the reigning champions and a victory in the Reds’ own finale with Wolves would see the title returning to the Etihad Stadium on goal difference.

But top-flight chiefs are preparing to cover all eventualities by stationing some of its most senior officials at both stadiums to be on hand for any coronation.

The decision mirrors a similar scenario which played out at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, when City ultimately beat Liverpool by a solitary point.

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters will be at the Etihad while its interim chairman Peter McCormick is set to be in attendance at Anfield.

Should results favour Liverpool on the final day, a replica of the title will be presented alongside a set of 40 blank winners’ medals to hand to players.

According to the Telegraph, an engraving of medals will take place in the days following the presentation when the title race has gone down to the wire.

Klopp’s side kept the pressure on City heading into the final day as Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip scored in a 2-1 win over Southampton on Tuesday.
