Jurgen Klopp has downplayed fears over Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future.
Salah admitted in an interview with GQ Magazine published this week that he is ‘not asking for crazy stuff’ in talks to extend his deal beyond summer 2023.
The lack of progress in tying down the Egypt international’s services has led to concerns among the Reds’ fan base that their talisman could soon depart.
But Klopp insisted on Wednesday that the Anfield hierarchy remain committed to keeping Salah and that his long-term future will be resolved in due course.
Asked about the reason for the current impasse, he said: “Things take time.
“There are so many things you have to do and, by the way, there is a third party. The agent is there as well.
“But there’s nothing to worry about. Mo has a contract here until next season. It’s just the situation. All fine, not done, but we had talks.
“He’s world class, an unbelievable player who did a lot of great stuff for Liverpool. Of course we want to keep him.”
Despite turning 31 at the end of his current deal, Klopp believes that Salah has the qualities to keep performing at the highest level for years to come.
“It’s his character. It is his determination, the way he trains, his attitude, work-rate. It’s incredible,” added the Liverpool manager.
“First in, last out [of the training ground], doing the right stuff.
“You can do some not-so-good things when you spend so long in the gym and the training ground, but he knows his body, he knows what to do.
“He listens to the experts here and tries to improve all the time. He tries to improve for the situation he is in now and he will not waste it by doing less.”
