Salah ‘not asking for crazy’ Liverpool deal

Mohamed Salah insists he is ‘not asking for crazy stuff’ in his contract talks with Liverpool.

Salah has continued to excel for Jurgen Klopp’s side with 23 goals and nine assists in 26 games this season prior to heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

But the Egypt international’s long-term future remains clouded in uncertainty with his existing deal at Anfield set to expire at the end of the next campaign.

Salah previously urged Reds owners Fenway Sports Group to resolve the issue while maintaining that the decision remains ultimately out of his hands.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, however, the 29-year-old refuted suggestions that his demands are a key stumbling block in negotiations.

“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in their hands,” said Salah.

“They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff.

“The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something because they appreciate what you did for the club.

“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me.

“But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It’s in their hands.”

Klopp has already stated his belief that Salah is a worthy contender to win the Ballon d’Or, something that Liverpool’s no.11 admits is still a personal target.

He added: “If you asked me if this was a drive for me to be here?

“Yeah, of course. I can’t really lie and say honestly I didn’t think about it.

“No, I think about it. I want to be the best player in the world. But I will have a good life even if I don’t win [the Ballon d’Or].

“My life is OK, everything is fine.”
