Liverpool resolve Jordan Henderson’s future

Liverpool have ended uncertainty over Jordan Henderson’s long-term future.

Henderson entered the final two years of his existing deal at Anfield earlier this summer, prompting several European clubs to monitor the midfielder’s situation.

Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were among the forerunners preparing to capitalise on the England international’s unresolved situation with the Reds.

But Henderson put pen to paper on an improved four-year contract on Tuesday which will tie himself to Jurgen Klopp’s side until at least the end of June 2025.

The 31-year-old joined Liverpool a decade ago in a £16 million deal from boyhood club Sunderland and has made almost 400 appearances for the club.

“It’s amazing to finally get it done and just concentrate on looking forward and what the future may hold,” admitted Henderson.

“I’m in a different place of course, as a player and as a person, from when I first walked in. I’ve learned and grown a lot over my time here, and I’ve got to thank a lot of people for that.

“I’ve loved every minute of it, even when I look back at the tough times, I was still enjoying being a part of this football club.

“The longer I can do that, the better for me, really. I want to be here as long as possible, I’ve always said that.

“To continue this journey is incredible for me and my family, and I hope the fans and the club feel the same way.”

Henderson was one of three Liverpool players to sign long-term deals ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, alongside defenders Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.

Klopp called upon the pair during an unprecedented injury crisis at centre-back last season which extended to makeshift options, including Henderson himself.

Williams has subsequently joined Swansea City on a season-long loan.
