Liverpool’s UCL tie with RB Leipzig in doubt

Liverpool’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig has been plunged into doubt.

The February 16 meeting between Jurgen Klopp’s side and their Bundesliga counterparts faces uncertainty due to Germany’s coronavirus travel limits.

Elite athletes are no longer exempt under the country’s latest restrictions, which has been extended to the UK, Ireland, Brazil, Portugal and South Africa.

A review will take place on February 17, a day before the Premier League champions are due to take on Julian Nagelsmann’s side at the Red Bull Arena.

Should the ban remain in effect after that date, it will also carry implications for Manchester City’s tie with Borussia Monchengladbach on February 24.

UEFA responded to the ongoing uncertainty by announcing on Tuesday that clubs have until April 2 to complete their Champions League knockout games.

If the Reds are still prohibited from travelling to Germany, the tie could be reversed with the Anfield leg taking place on the date instead of March 10.

They previously faced the prospect of their Champions League group finale with Midtjylland being switched from its original location in early December.

However the UK government’s relaxing of its travel corridor restrictions with Denmark saw the game go ahead at the MCH Arena as originally planned.
