Pep Lijnders believes Harvey Elliott is learning important lessons from Liverpool’s senior players.
Elliott will be available for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie with Arsenal after serving a 14-day suspension for a social media post where he mocked Harry Kane.
The teenager became the Reds’ youngest-ever player to start a senior match when he made is debut in the previous round of the competition at MK Dons.
Jurgen Klopp has also routinely included Elliott, who joined the ranks at Anfield last summer from Fulham, in Liverpool’s first-team training sessions this season.
“He is ready [to play],” confirmed Lijnders, Klopp’s deputy.
“Our club made a statement (about the incident). We can’t forget that he is only 16, of course. We have to be careful with that.
“But how I see him, since I have been working with him, I see a very educated boy. I see a boy who is really passionate for the game.
“But again, if you come here, and you see Milly (James Milner), Hendo (Jordan Henderson), (Adam) Lallana… Gini (Wijnaldum), Virg (Van Dijk), Bobby (Firmino) – all examples in different ways.
“Players who never whine, who never complain or make excuses. In the hardest moments, they never give up – and they never give up our way. They always put the team above themselves.
“For a young player, you could not wish to have a better environment to grow. That makes us from a good team to a successful team.”
He added: “Harvey is a player who has super play between the lines and can create.
“You don’t have that many players as an example. We have to see that identity constantly.”
