Elliott suspended over Harry Kane video

Harvey Elliott has been hit with a 14-day suspension for mocking Harry Kane.

Video footage of the young Liverpool midfielder ridiculing the England captain on social media emerged following his move from Fulham this summer.

Elliott, who was a Fulham player at the time, referred to Kane as a ‘f***ing mong’ while watching the Reds’ Champions League final win over Tottenham.

He later apologised for the Snapchat video, saying that he was ‘truly sorry’.

But the Football Association issued Elliott with a 14-day ban from club football after he admitted to a breach of Rule E3 in relation to social media conduct.

In their ruling, Wembley chiefs revealed that the video was had been uploaded to the Snapchat account of the teenager’s girlfriend and was subsequently circulated.

Elliott explained that the video was designed to ‘wind up’ some Spurs supporting friends following Liverpool’s victory against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The FA also insisted that they would not be imposing the maximum penalty of a six-match ban and took into account the player’s previous disciplinary record.

Elliott, who made his Liverpool debut in their Carabao Cup win over MK Dons last month, has also been ordered to complete a face-to-face education course.

He must also pay a £350 fine as part of the FA’s ruling.

“Harvey’s apology was sincere, immediate and unequivocal. He has acknowledged privately and publicly his actions were wrong,” said a Liverpool spokesman.

“Given his age when this indiscretion was committed – in a private setting and prior to signing for us – we will continue to work with Harvey on an educational basis as relates to his conduct.

“He has already demonstrated to us a willingness to learn and live up to the values and conduct expected of a Liverpool player.”

Elliott will now miss next weekend’s trip to Manchester United but is set to return to Liverpool action for their Carabao Cup fourth round clash with Arsenal.
