Liverpool have cashed in the final amount of Philippe Coutinho’s Barcelona move.
The Brazil international completed a protracted switch from Anfield to the Nou Camp in January 2018 for a deal worth in the region of £142 million.
Despite winning four major honours, Coutinho’s time with the Spanish champions was largely unsuccessful as he struggled to become a regular first-team fixture.
Barca allowed the 27-year-old to join Bayern Munich on a season-long loan this summer following Antoine Griemann’s long-awaited arrival from Atletico Madrid.
Accounts released by the Catalan giants have yet to pay the outstanding £84m owed to the Reds over 21 months since Coutinho’s original transfer.
However it also emerged that Anfield chiefs have sold the debt amount to a ‘financial institution’, who will now be the recipient of the outstanding figure.
Coutinho produced a return of 21 goals from 72 appearances in all competitions across a season-and-a-half spent with Barca.
