Liverpool have won the race to sign highly-rated defender Sepp van den Berg.
A host of European clubs were in the hunt for the 17-year-old centre-back, who made 16 first-team outings in the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle last season.
Van den Berg has been capped at under-19 level with Holland and is widely considered to be one of the continent’s most promising players.
He spent the previous campaign under the tutelage of former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam prior to him taking the reins at Feyenoord this summer.
Bayern Munich and Ajax expressed keen interest in signing him while Sampdoria tabled an unsuccessful £2.25 million bid in the January transfer window.
PSV Eindhoven were also credited with pursuing the teenager, who has drawn flattering comparisons with compatriot Virgil van Dijk, currently at Anfield.
But the Reds beat off competition from their European counterparts as Van den Berg is expected to finalise his move to Merseyside on Wednesday.
It is expected that he will automatically join Liverpool’s academy ranks in Kirkby with a view to long-term progression in the senior ranks under Jurgen Klopp.
The European champions have previous with landing prodigious talents from Holland with Ki-Jana Hoever arriving from Ajax last summer.
Van den Berg had been set to enter the final 12 months of his current contract at the Mac3Park Stadion.
