Concussion rules Salah out of Barcelona tie

Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Liverpool’s clash with Barcelona due to a concussion.

Salah emerged as a doubt for the Champions League semi-final return leg after suffering the injury during the second half of the Reds’ win over Newcastle.

The Egyptian forward was stretchered off following the collision with Magpies stopper Martin Dubravka, which has now sidelined him for Tuesday’s showdown.

Roberto Firmino will also miss the game with the newly-crowned La Liga champions, having missed the first leg at the Nou Camp with a groin tear.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Salah will be absent for the visit of Ernesto Valverde’s side but could return for the final game of the season with Wolves.

He said: “Both are not available for tomorrow.

“It is a concussion and that means he will not even be allowed to play. He feels okay but that is not good enough from a medical point of view.

“He is desperate (to play), but we cannot do it.”

Liverpool face an uphill task against Barca, who hold a 3-0 lead from last week’s first leg, as they bid to reach a second consecutive Champions League final.

“There is hope and it is football,” added Klopp.

“We are far away from giving up but we are not in a situation where we say it will happen, 100 per cent. But it is football.

“Ttwo of the world’s best strikers are not available tomorrow and we have to score four goals against Barcelona to go through in 90 minutes.

“It doesn’t make life easier but as long as we have 11 players on the pitch we will try. That’s what we want to show, nothing else.

“We want to celebrate the Champions League campaign, either with a proper finish or another goal.

“That is the plan: just try and if we can do it wonderful and if not, then fail in the most beautiful way.”
