Liverpool receive boost in Premier League bid

Mauricio Pochettino will not be on the sidelines or Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool.

Pochettino has received a two-game touchline ban for an altercation with referee Mike Dean during his side’s defeat to Burnley at the end of last month.

He was also fined £10,000 by the Football Association after accepting an improper conduct charge over the incident.

It means the Argentine is set to be a notable absence from the technical area when Spurs travel to Anfield for their latest meeting on Sunday, March 31.

“Mauricio Pochettino has been fined £10,000 and will serve a two-match touchline ban following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing,” read an FA statement.

“The Tottenham Hotspur manager accepted an improper conduct charge from The FA, which resulted from his language and/or behaviour – both on the pitch and in or around the tunnel area – at the end of the game against Burnley on 23 February.”

Originally, Pochettino was due to be back in time for the trip to Merseyside but a rescheduling of the Lilywhites’ game with Crystal Palace has put paid to that plan.

His presence in the directors’ box is expected to come as a blow to Spurs’ hopes of reviving their Premier League ambitions against one of their current title rivals.
