Alexander-Arnold relaxed about Liverpool omission

Trent Alexander-Arnold accepts that he faces competition for a starring role at Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold was omitted from the Reds’ previous two games against Huddersfield Town and Manchester City after being a near ever-present this season.

Klopp explained the defender’s benching for the visit of the Premier League champions was partially aligned to celebrating his 20th birthday on the same day.

Speaking before the Champions League tie with Red Star Belgrade, Alexander-Arnold admitted he does not take a regular role in the first-team at Anfield for granted.

He said: “Obviously it’s a world-class club and there’s competition for places.

“I think it’s wrong if you go into a game and starting week in, week out.

“It’s only right that there’s rotations and to keep everyone on their toes is the best way to get the best out of people.”

The West Derby-born player also revealed that he harbours ambitions of someday captaining Liverpool, having spent an entire career at his boyhood club.

“It’s something that I’ve obviously dreamed of and an aim, and a goal of mine is to become it,” he added.

“There’s still a lot of hard work to go into it so it’s just about being patient, keep working hard and hopefully one day that opportunity might come.”
