Liverpool will assess Naby Keita after a picking up a hamstring injury on Guinea duty.
Keita was carried off the pitch with the problem sustained during the first half of his country’s 1-1 draw with Rwanda in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The midfielder has been assessed by Guinea’s medical team in the immediate aftermath but will undergo further scans upon his return to Merseyside this week.
News of Keita’s potential setback comes after two separate injury spells within barely three months of joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig during the summer.
A neck problem restricted the 23-year-old to a full pre-season schedule before he suffered a back injury in a Champions League defeat to Napoli earlier this month.
Liverpool are already facing potential headaches for Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield due to injuries picked up by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah during the international break.
Salah is said to have sustained a muscle problem in Egypt’s win over Swaziland last weekend while Mane visited hospital on Monday amid concerns over a hand injury.
