Liverpool will face Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to take on the reigning Ligue 1 champions and last season’s Serie A runner-up when their Group C campaign begins next month.
Thursday’s draw also saw the Anfield side drawn against Red Star Belgrade.
Napoli previously visited Merseyside in the 2010 Europa League group stage, losing 3-1 courtesy of a Steven Gerrard second half hat-trick.
PSG also took on Liverpool in past European competition, edging them out 3-2 on aggregate in the 1997 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final between the sides.
Red Star have already triumphed in this competition against the Reds with 2-1 wins in each leg of their European Cup second round ties back in 1973.
“To be 100 per cent honest, it was not that I had a group I wished for or whatever,” admitted Klopp.
“I expected a difficult group, we have a difficult group and that’s what the Champions League is all about.
“PSG are one of the most exciting teams in the world and I think their target is to win the Champions League, so that will be two interesting matches.
“Napoli, we beat them in pre-season but it goes without saying these two games will be completely a different challenge.
“I’ve been to Napoli with Dortmund, so I know what the atmosphere is like there. In fact, it’s where I got a suspension [for being sent off]. I can do better, obviously!
“Red Star, I watched them last night. They came through and it will be, again, a very, very intense atmosphere I am sure.
“But that’s how it is, it’s the group and I am fine with that.”
