Mohamed Salah’s injury in Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat could put paid to his World Cup hopes.
Salah was withdrawn after half an hour in the Reds’ eventual 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday with what appeared to be a shoulder problem.
A challenge by Sergio Ramos saw the Egypt international struggle to continue in Kiev and placed hopes of representing his country this summer in jeopardy.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed Salah visited a hospital in the Ukrainian capital for assessment on the problem but admits that the initial prognosis is concerning.
He said: “It’s a serious injury, a really serious injury.
“He is in the hospital for an X-ray. It’s either the collarbone or the shoulder itself. It doesn’t look good, that’s it.”
The Egyptian national side later revealed in a statement posted on Twitter that the 25-year-old suffered a ‘sprain in the shoulder ligaments’.
However they also remain ‘optimistic’ that Salah will be available in time for their involvement in the World Cup, which begins on June 14.
