Liverpool and Porto in Champions League ticket row

Liverpool have contacted UEFA over ticketing concerns in their Champions League clash with Porto.

Fans travelling to the first leg of the Reds’ last 32 game at the Estadio do Dragao on February 14 will pay around €75 – three times the price for home supporters.

Porto are planning to charge season ticket holders €25 with general admission tickets for their own fans will then be priced at €75.

However Anfield officials do not believe their hosts will be charged that price due to the prestige of the fixture ensuring a shortage of general admission seats.

It would mean that Porto are in breach of UEFA’s competition rules which state that the same price level tickets must be in place for home and away fans.

Liverpool have been in regular contact with European football’s governing body for several weeks in efforts to resolve the issue before next month’s game.

But they are expected to lodge a formal complaint if no tickets are released for general admission.

“It is not apparent that there will be any home general admission tickets sold at €75 due to the anticipated demand by FC Porto members,” a club statement said.

“Liverpool FC has therefore raised this significant discrepancy at the highest level with UEFA and FC Porto, who have confirmed that this pricing structure and policy is in line with previous rounds in the competition.

“We will continue our dialogue with UEFA regarding the €50 discrepancy between the home and away ticket prices.

“We will update supporters when those discussions have concluded.”
