Joe Gomez is focusing on the positives around Virgil van Dijk’s Liverpool arrival.
Van Dijk could make his Reds debut in Friday’s FA Cup clash with Everton after making a £75 million move from Southampton earlier this month.
The Dutchman is expected to command a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans that could spell trouble for several of the current defensive crop at Anfield.
Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Gomez are all likely to see their positions challenged by Van Dijk’s world-record signing.
But Gomez, who has become a regular fixture in Klopp’s side this season, sees the 26-year-old’s capture as a source for optimism and learning.
“Personally, for me, it’s someone else I can learn from,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.
“He is an experienced defender with a lot of quality. It’s another person for me to develop and learn from, the same as I have with Joel, Dejan, Raggy and so on.
“It’s nice to have someone else to try to help you develop. And for the team it is another massive signing.
“It’s nice to be in a squad with so much world-class talent.
“It gives you confidence when you go out on the pitch that teams are thinking, ‘we’ve got a tough task today’. And now there is another massive addition with Van Dijk.”
