Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is happy for Sam Allardyce’s arrival at Everton.
Allardyce was confirmed as Ronald Koeman’s replacement at the Blues on Thursday, signing an 18-month contract with the Goodison Park club.
Among one of the ex-England boss’s first challenges in the Everton hot seat will be a Merseyside derby encounter with Liverpool at Anfield in just nine days’ time.
Klopp encountered Allardyce during his own formative months at the Reds’ helm, when he was dismissed as a ‘soft German’ by the erstwhile Sunderland coach.
But the Liverpool boss hopes that the 63-year-old can spark a revival across Stanley Park to maintain the city’s important overall success in football.
“With Sam I have a history when he was at Sunderland,” said Klopp.
“He said something after the game and he had to row back. Then he was the manager of the England national team and we had a good relationship in his short term.
“Now he’s had a holiday, recharged the batteries and I’m happy for him. It’s good for us when Everton is in a good moment.
“They shouldn’t be in a better moment than we are but it is important for the whole city and us. I’m happy about it (his appointment).”
