Klopp backs Moreno ‘100%’ despite Sevilla draw

Jurgen Klopp continues to trust Alberto Moreno ‘100 per cent’ despite Liverpool’s draw with Sevilla.

Moreno contributed to the Reds throwing away a half time lead against Sevilla in their Champions League group encounter to be pegged back to 3-3.

The left-back conceded a cheap free kick that led to the La Liga outfit finding a lifeline in the Group E clash and also failed to track scorer Wissam Ben Yedder.

It was also Moreno who conceded the foul on Pablo Sarabia which allowed Ben Yedder to double his tally as Sevilla dominated the second 45 minutes.

Klopp is no stranger to the 25-year-old struggling against his former club, as he did in the second half of the Reds’ 2016 Europa League final defeat.

However the Liverpool manager insists that Moreno cannot solely take the fall for events in the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Tuesday evening.

He said: “You saw the goals, how we conceded them was quite special, but it was not a single player.

“Yes, in the end the penalty was Alberto and with the free-kick it was Alberto but it was not like that.

“Where we had the situation, why we had the situation, why we didn’t play the back pass in the penalty situation – we played other back passes.

“We had the ball around the third goal again, it was between two of our players, we should react quicker and shoot the ball to Betis!

“We didn’t do that so they could shoot, get the corner kick and score.

“It’s all about us and how we felt in this situation. Very often in life you need an experience before you can learn off it.”

Asked if his support of Moreno had changed, Klopp added: “I told him I still trust him 100%.

“The game is over, how you concede the goals is not important any more, only for the analysis.

“We know how we came to this situation and that’s what we’ve got to change.”
