Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been released from hospital after a health scare.
Klopp missed the Reds’ training session on Wednesday due to feeling unwell upon his return from a charity trip to South Africa in the previous week.
The German coach did not oversee preparations at Melwood for his side’s game with Southampton and headed to a local hospital on the advice of club doctors.
No details have been specified for the cause of Klopp’s absence but his medical diagnosis was not thought to be serious and did not require any surgery.
“Jurgen Klopp has attended a hospital appointment today as a precautionary measure, after feeling ill,” a Liverpool statement confirmed.
“He is being assessed by doctors and will be absent from training on Wednesday as a result.
“There are currently no plans for Jurgen to remain in hospital beyond his appointment and he will therefore return home this evening.
“However, he may require further check-ups in the coming days.
“The club urges that the privacy of Jurgen, his family and other patients is respected while attending hospital visits.”
Klopp is expected to recover in time for Saturday’s visit of the Saints but previously missed a game with Sunderland in February 2016 due to appendicitis.
His assistants Zelko Buvac and Peter Krawietz took charge of the team for the 2-2 draw with the Black Cats.
