Liverpool to resist Barca’s renewed Coutinho plans

Liverpool will continue to resist Barcelona’s approaches for Philippe Coutinho.

Comments by the Catalan club’s CEO hinted that they were preparing to renew their interest in the playmaker in the January transfer window.

Oscar Grau admitted on Wednesday that Barca were ‘ready to buy Coutinho’ when the market reopens for business at the beginning of next year.

He said: “We are ready to buy Coutinho in the winter market or any player the technical staff request.

“But it is important to adjust ourselves, so if there are to be arrivals, there must be exits as well.

“We must forget about the price paid for Neymar last summer.

“After taxes we received about €188m in income and a direct financial impact on the club’s treasury of €144m.”

Anfield officials rejected all offers for the Brazil international, who submitted a transfer request in attempts to force a proposed transfer to the Nou Camp.

But Liverpool’s stance on Coutinho is understood to remain unchanged despite turning down a bid of £114 million from Barcelona last summer.

Leaked emails appeared to show the simmering point of relations between the clubs with the Reds requesting that Barca ‘stop harassing’ the 25-year-old.

Coutinho has enjoyed a seamless reintegration into the first-team since the saga, scoring three times in his first six appearances of the new season.
