Mamadou Sakho’s hopes of securing a Liverpool exit have suffered a setback.
Sakho is set to leave Anfield this summer after spending a season in the wilderness following a high-profile fallout with Jurgen Klopp last summer.
The defender enjoyed a brief spell with Crystal Palace during the second half of the previous campaign, in which he helped them secure Premier League safety.
Despite only making eight appearances after a knee injury sidelined him from late April, Sakho’s influence saw him nominated for the Eagles’ player of the year.
But his bid to secure a return to Selhurst Park now appears on the rocks, just weeks after Palace chairman Steve Parish had publicly entertained the move.
Frank de Boer’s appointment as Sam Allardyce’s successor has seen those plans shelved despite admitting that Sakho had impressed during his loan stint.
He said: “[Sakho] was certainly impressive and important last season, but we will look at what we need.
“First of all, I need to see all the players and get a good opinion on them. I know a lot about the team, but it is different when a new manager comes in.
“Already I have an opinion, but I need to see them live to see if my opinion changes.”
Sakho returned to Liverpool’s Melwood base earlier this week in efforts to ready himself for pre-season despite his future at the club still appearing bleak.
Liverpool remain hopeful of commanding a £30 million fee for the centre-back, 27.
