Sturridge to discover Liverpool FC fate this summer

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will make a decision on Daniel Sturridge’s Liverpool future this summer.

Sturridge’s on-field presence for the Reds this season has been intermittent with only five Premier League starts and made 15 appearances in all competitions.

The England international saw his prospects further limited by Klopp favouring a non-traditional front line of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

He missed Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester City due to recovering from a virus which forced him out of Liverpool’s training camp in La Manga last month.

With two years remaining on his existing deal, Klopp is preparing to run the rule over Sturridge’s Anfield career after the current campaign ends in May.

He said: “I have no idea what happens in the summer.

“It is not only Daniel but a lot of players. Daniel was not in training for eight or nine days because of a virus infection.

“We have to bring him back to the best shape possible and then bring this season to an end as successfully as possible.

“Then we will make decisions and speak about Daniel and any other players about what will happen at the end of the season.

“A lot of things will influence this and we can speak about it when it is time.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, have announced a pre-tax loss of £19.8 million in their accounts for the year ending May 2016 despite posting revenues of £300m.
