Lallana reveals reason for extending Liverpool FC stay

Adam Lallana has revealed that Liverpool being primed for trophies was a driving force in his renewed commitment.

The England international penned a new three-year deal, worth £110,000 per week, earlier today with an additional 12-month extension in summer 2020.

Lallana rose to prominence after a difficult start to life at Anfield following his £25 million arrival from Southampton at the beginning of the 2014/15 season.

Jurgen Klopp’s appointment as Reds manager midway through the following campaign saw the 28-year-old’s performance significantly improve.

That renaissance saw Lallana go on to become a regular feature for England and was recently crowned the national side’s player of the year for 2016.

And the midfielder believes that a new-found level of stability at Anfield has been key to his decision to pledge his long-term future to the club.

He said: “We have everything in place here to be successful.

“I think we can keep this squad of players together for a long period and that can only be a good thing.

“We know the manager has committed himself to the club long-term, so we have everything in place now.

“We have stability and ambition – that’s a decent combination.

“The manager is a special talent and we are lucky to have him here and it’s great he’s committed for the long-term as well.

“But I think the most important word with our manager is ‘trust’.

“We trust him and in turn he places a lot of trust in us – and hopefully we reward that on the pitch for him.”
