Liverpool FC ask players not to sign autographs

Liverpool players have been asked not to sign autographs or pose for pictures with supporters outside the club’s Melwood training ground.

The request made to Jurgen Klopp’s side will take effect from Monday at the complex in West Derby and comes on the grounds of healty and safety reasons.

According to the Liverpool Echo, a number of incidents over several months has prompted the decision by Anfield officials to make the plea to first-team players.

Fans have converged outside Melwood for decades in the hope of meeting their heroes, with an increasing number traveling from overseas in recent years.

Last year Liverpool submitted a planning application for a ‘players’ entrance‘ as well as a traffic island for supporters in a bid to avoid the current congestion.

But that proposal was since scrapped amid plans to leave the Deysbrook Lane venue for a site which will encompass all of the club’s playing squads.

The mass gatherings at the main entrance now poses a risk to not only fans themselves but also passing motorists as well as pedestrians in the area..

Instead, players will be visiting local schools close to Melwood to sign items for young supporters in safer surroundings.
