Jordan Pickford believes Everton can match Liverpool in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby.
Both sides head into their 234th meeting on the back of contrasting fortunes with the Blues currently just two points above the Premier League relegation zone.
Jurgen Klopp’s side, meanwhile, are on 14-game unbeaten run that has allowed them to open up an 11-point lead over Manchester City in the title race.
The sides will face each other again in a month’s time after Monday’s FA Cup third-round draw paired them together for the second time in three seasons.
But Pickford insists Everton are capable of ending their 20-year wait for a win at Anfield if they perform to the highest of their abilities against the league leaders.
He said: “I think when we’re performing at our best we can match any team in the league, not just Liverpool.
“But it’s about performing, rolling your sleeves up and when it’s tough making sure we’re in the moment at the time getting tackles in and then playing football after that.
“Our squad we’ve made a good couple of additions from last season and finished very well. We just need to start getting that momentum going and getting those results.
“We know the passion for both sides and with me being from up north I know what the passion’s like with Sunderland and Newcastle. I think it’s the same down here so I kind of know the feeling.
“You’ve got to give credit where credit’s due. They are doing really well but it’s hopefully our time to stop them in their tracks.”
The trip across Stanley Park holds bitter memories for Pickford, whose stoppage-time error allowed Divock Origi to snatch the spoils with a 96th-minute winner.
And the England international admits the manner of Everton’s last defeat to Liverpool was more difficult to stomach than their recent loss to Norwich City.
“Personally obviously it was tough to take because I’ve made an error,” added Pickford.
“The most deflating thing for me is we got beat against Liverpool, which is never nice. But I think it was a total different scale of feelings in the dressing room.
“I feel like we gave it our all against Liverpool and with my little error, we got beat 1-0. But we can learn. I think we were in the game.
“We had a good fair few chances where we could’ve scored as well. Alisson pulled off a good couple of saves so I think we were in the game all the way whereas the Norwich game we weren’t in the game so much.”
