Of all of the Premier League managers, it’s perhaps Everton’s Marco Silva who is looking shakiest in his current job.
The Merseyside club have suffered from a very troubling start to their 2019/20 Premier League campaign, and Silva has widely been tipped as the next Premier League boss to go.
But is the Portuguese manager really that bad? Everton recently managed to pick up a handy away win at Southampton and the new-look side finally appear to be gelling. But with ongoing rumours that Mark Hughes could be the next Everton boss, it’s clear that Silva’s time could shortly be up.
What’s gone wrong at Everton?

Everton are now a very sorry fifteenth place in the Premier League table. With four wins, two draws and six defeats from their opening 12 games, the Merseyside club are now hovering perilously close to the relegation zone.
Obviously, it’s the club’s manager who must take the blame and many bookmakers have started putting up odds for Silva to be sacked before Christmas. If you don’t fancy Silva’s chances of staying at Goodison Park, then you should know that Bet365 offers great odds for all kinds of football bets, and there’s a strong chance you’ll find a good price for Silva getting the boot.
This is especially so as Silva hasn’t been short of money to play with. The summer transfer period saw Everton splashing out a huge amount of money on international star players. But with youngsters like Moise Kean being unable to deliver on their huge potential, it seems that Marco Silva is the person who is feeling the heat.
A tricky run up to Christmas

It’s clear that Silva faces a string of critical matches if he wants to hang onto his job. After the international break, Everton face struggling Norwich City at home and this game should offer three points on a plate.
But following this, Silva’s team face a horrifying series of matches in the run up to Christmas. This starts with a very tough away match at in-form Leicester City on 1 December, before a potentially terrifying match against Liverpool at Anfield on 4 December. From here, there are more tricky games including a home match against Chelsea on 7 December, an away match at Manchester United on 15 December. Then they’ll entertain Arsenal at Goodison Park on 21 December.
With Liverpool looking unbeatable at the moment, it’s clear that the Anfield match in early December could be Silva’s biggest test. The Merseyside derby always provides plenty of fireworks, and it’s easy to imagine Everton being humiliated here. All of which points to Marco Silva being out of work when Christmas comes around.
Signs of hope at Goodison Park

However, it’s important to remember that it’s not all doom and gloom at Goodison Park. Although Everton may have had a barren run of results, this hasn’t necessarily reflected the skills that they’ve displayed on the pitch.
In particular, it’s the Brazilian star Richarlison who consistently seems to be Everton’s danger man. The striker has shown a level of toughness that you just don’t find elsewhere in the Premier League, and it’s this resolve that could help Everton fight their way out of a tight corner.
In addition to this, there are plenty more Everton players who are starting to punch above their weight. We’ve seen increasingly promising performances from Alex Iwobi as the Nigerian player has started to play a more central role. Plus with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson showing that he can score some incredible goals when it counts, there is some light at the end of the tunnel for the Goodison Park faithful.
