Silva hints at Everton line-up for Carabao Cup tie

Marco Silva has warned he is unlikely to ring the changes for Everton’s Carabao Cup tie with Southampton.

Tuesday’s visit of Mark Hughes’ side could see the Blues book their place in the fourth round, where they would face an away trip to Leicester City if victorious.

Silva rotated heavily in the previous round with the win over Rotherham seeing eight changes from the team which had drawn at Bournemouth days earlier.

But the Everton manager is wary of building momentum with his strongest crop of players as the South Coast side prepare to visit Goodison Park.

He said: “I don’t see these types of games as a game to change everything.

“Since the first Premier League match, I have said that it is not good for us to be always changing something in our squad.

“In the last two or three games we have repeated our backline.

“In the seven games we played, we have only been able to do that two times because of red cards, injuries and my decisions in some moments.

“It’s important we start to have some consistency in our starting XI.”
