Marco Silva will edge closer to becoming Everton’s new manager this week.
The Portuguese coach is again Blues majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri’s preferred choice to succeed Sam Allardyce, who was sacked last Wednesday.
Silva previously appeared on Everton’s shortlist when they parted with Ronald Koeman but Watford resisted all approaches for their erstwhile manager.
Goodison Park chiefs were blamed by the Hertfordshire club who cited their ‘unsolicited approach’ motivating for the decision to part with Silva in January.
Watford lodged a formal complaint to the Premier League over that previous attempt to prise the former Olympiacos and Benfica coach away.
But Everton remain hopeful of ironing out the issue with a compensation package and are set to press ahead with their plans to appoint Silva.
Marcel Brands, the club’s new sporting director, is expected to meet with the 40-year-old to discuss the prospect of being appointed Allardyce’s successor.
