Mikel Arteta has emerged as a contender to become Everton’s new manager.
Pressure continues to mount on Sam Allardyce after the Blues’ 2-1 reversal at Burnley saw them suffered seventh defeat in their previous 10 games.
Arteta spent six years at Goodison Park before joining Arsenal in 2011 and is reportedly being touted for a return within his former club’s hierarchy.
According to the Mirror, the former midfielder has been identified by Everton chiefs Bill Kenwright and Farhad Moshiri as Alllardyce’s potential successor.
Since retiring from football in 2016, Arteta has formed part of Manchester City’s coaching staff and currently serves as a joint assistant coach to Pep Guardiola.
But the 35-year-old is likely to be heavily in-demand this summer with Arsenal also said to be monitoring him amid uncertainty over Arsene Wenger’s future.
