Everton reveal key principles for new stadium

Everton have outlined their key principles for a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Work to move the Blues into a new home on the Liverpool waterfront is expected to be completed in time for the beginning of their 2022/23 campaign.

Ease of access, affordable ticket prices and maintaining a link with the dockland’s maritime heritage are among the factors outlined on the club’s official website.

The future of Goodison Park ground also forms part of the plans, with Everton keen to create a ‘unique and innovative legacy’ for their existing site.

Thousands of supporters were surveyed to help the club produce the development principles for the future of their new and current stadiums.

Robert Elstone, Everton’s CEO, said: “Our stadium should be built to meet the needs and expectations of the people that will use it; our players, our partners and, above all, our fans.

“To understand those views, we’ve aggregated what we’ve heard and what we’ve read to develop what we are calling our ‘Key Principles’.

“We’d like to share those principles, to test and amend – or refine them – and to use them to frame the ideas and expectations of our fans.”

Building of the new stadium is estimated to cost in the region of £500 million, with Liverpool City Council acting as a vehicle for ‘two-thirds’ of the funding.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “Liverpool City Council is fully committed to working with the Club to deliver what will be an iconic new football stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

“The opportunity for Everton’s new home to play a key role in the regeneration of an area of the city which holds incredible potential is very exciting.

“The project doesn’t just benefit North Liverpool but the whole of Liverpool because the city council will benefit hugely from the financial return we get which will enable us to support frontline services in this city.”

Fans are invited to share their their views on the principles via an online survey. Completed surveys must be submitted by 5pm on February 23.
