Under-fire Everton manager Roberto Martinez insists he is determined to remain in the Goodison Park hot seat.
Pressure has intensified on Martinez following the Blues’ current run of three successive Premier League defeats while his handling of Leighton Baines earlier this week has also drawn criticism.
The former Wigan boss claimed that Baines had ‘apologised’ for claiming Everton’s current squad has lacked chemistry for some considerable time, in the wake of last weekend’s reversal at Manchester United.
But ahead of today’s trip to Watford, which could see Everton slip down to 15th in the table, Martinez insists that he remains the right man to take the club forward.
He said: “I need to show that, I’m not someone who is going to come up with excuses.
I am very, very aware of what it means to be the Everton manager.
“I am the first one to embrace expectations. I’m not happy just to be a football club that is looking to just do enough. We want to win silverware.”
“I expect that the scrutiny and the disappointment will be there when we don’t win football games. We need to see the transition and the way we have been adapting season after season,” he added.
“But I don’t have to sell any smoke. I need to win football games in order for the fans to understand that’s the way forward.”
