River of Light organiser responds to complaints

The organiser of Liverpool’s River of Light has claimed that the event ‘went to plan’ despite numerous complaints.

Around 200,000 people braved the cold to see the inaugural Bonfire Night event on the River Mersey but many were left hugely disappointed.

Key complaints included a lack of music and sense of occasion to accompany the 10,000 display of pyrotechnics from a barge on the city’s waterfront.

Andy Hubble from Star Fireworks, who created the event, believes the event was a visual success but admitted his disappointment that crowds did not enjoy the full experience.

He said: “All the photos and video that we have seen on social media are really great.

“We had the soundtrack with us on the barge and we could hear all the music and the fireworks were timed beautifully.

“Our remit was to get the show designed to the highest standard and get it synchronised. We didn’t really get involved in the sound.

“Our job was to do a top-class show. The fireworks themselves were good.

“It’s a shame not everybody could hear the soundtrack. I think if they had perhaps it might have enhanced their enjoyment.

“It was a pyro-musical display and to enjoy it you’d need to be fully immersed.”
