Two bodies found in remains of Mather Avenue fire

The bodies of two people have been discovered in the remains of a burnt-out Allerton house.

A blaze broke out at the property in Mather Avenue last Sunday amid fears that its residents, ailment a couple in their 70s, were still inside.

Crews from Merseyside Fire and Rescue positively identified the corpse of a man, whose next of kin have since been informed.

The body of a female was also found close to that of the man discovered amid the wreckage of the two-storey building.

Such was the damage to the building that it was only deemed safe for emergency services to enter on Monday afternoon.
