Liverpool men held over ‘illegal entry’ into USA

Three Liverpool men have been arrested for illegally entering the United States.

Four British nationals were charged with an unlawful entry into the country after reportedly crossing the border from Canada into the US state of Maine.

Mohammed Sultan Saleh, a 22-year-old who previously ran now-closed fast food outlet Shuga Shuga in Toxteth, has been named as part of the quartet.

Fellow city natives Ali Abdullah, 18, and 21-year-old Hameed Nagi are among those who stand accused of illegally hiking along the unpaved ‘Golden Road’ on April 3.

According to a filing with the US District Court of Maine on Tuesday (April 7), Border Patrol found the men hiding in vegetation at the side of the road.

They initially claimed they did not realise they had entered the US only for GoPro showing one of the men saying: “I can confirm you are now on US soil … We just made it baby.”

The four men are charged with Entry Without Inspection, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in a federal prision and a $5,000 fine.

They each pleaded not guilty to the count and are being held without bail.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting four British men arrested in the US and are in contact with local authorities.”
