Man, 65, charged with Anfield woman’s murder

A man has appeared in court over the murder of an Anfield woman.

The remains of Delia McInerney.were found in a flat at Gerards Court in St Helens on January 8 after police received reports of concerns for a person’s safety.

Officers later conducted searches of Ms McInerney’s property on Douglas Road, with the street evacuated twice in as many days due to a ‘suspicious powder’.

George Gordon was initially charged with concealing the remains and obstructing the coroner but has since been charged in connection with the 64-year-old’s murder.

The 65-year-old is also charged with three counts of fraud between April 2023 and June 2023 in addition to one of attempted theft related to Ms McInerney.

Gordon appeared via video link from HMP Liverpool on Monday (February 9) in a prison issue grey jumper and glasses to confirm his name and date of birth.

He is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday.
