Several areas of Liverpool were engulfed by a day of far-right violence.
The Strand had to be closed off by police, who saw two officers taken to hospital with injuries, during Saturday’s chaotic scenes at the Pier Head.
Bricks and bottles were thrown at on-duty officers while another was pushed from his bike and assaulted by a group of men in the waterfront’s vicinity.
The groups involved then moved across the city centre onto The Strand and Church Street, where the wanton disorder impacted on the general public.
A kiosk in Liverpool One and a phone shop on Church Street were damaged, broken into and looted by the groups protesting after the Southport killings.
Although police later arrested 11 people and imposed a Section 34 dispersal zone across the city, the ugly scenes moved to County Road in Walton.
The Spellow Hub, a community library which opened last year as a one-stop shop for deprived families and individuals, suffered severe fire damage.
A convenience store was also set ablaze after a number of people had entered the shop and stolen various items alongside other local businesses.
Assistant Chief Constable Alex Goss said: “The people who have brought such aggression and destruction into the heart of our communities do not represent the people of Merseyside, and they certainly do not honour the memory of those three young girls whose lives were taken so tragically on Monday.
“They have instead attacked and in many cases caused serious injury to police officers who come to work every day to protect the public.
“They have brought fear into residential streets, targeted local businesses providing a vital service to our communities, and damaged personal property and infrastructure in the city.
“This is disgraceful and people who live, work and visit Merseyside do not want it to continue, and we will not tolerate it.
“A number of those involved this evening were youths and we are urging parents and guardians to make sure they know where their children are, to protect them and others from harm.
“If you have any information about this incident or if you know of anyone involved, I would urge you to contact us so we can bring those responsible to justice.”
