Ambulance hit by suspected drunk driver

A patient-carrying ambulance was hit by a suspected drink driver in Liverpool.

Police were called to Langshaw Lea in Netherley during the early hours of Friday to reports that the emergency vehicle had collided with a Peugeot car.

Visible damage had been caused to the ambulance but the paramedics and patient who were inside at the time of the incident escaped without injuries.

Officers arrested a 29-year-old woman from Halewood at the scene on suspicion of drink driving following a breathalyser test. She is currently in custody.

Tweeting about the incident, an officer from Merseyside Police’s road policing team confirmed: “Drink driver has collided with an ambulance, which is now off the road for repair and was carrying a patient at the time.

“Driver has been arrested. I’m sure you all share our frustration with this one.

“Our drink driver has blown 54 in custody. Legal limit is 35.

“They will be charged in the morning and given a court date and inevitable driving ban.”
