A jar of preserved human remains has been found inside a Toxteth house.
Police made the discovery after being called to Wordsworth Street at 12.10pm on Monday following reports of a ‘suspicious circumstance’ at an empty address.
Officers placed a cordon around one property located close to Toxteth Park Cemetery and remained in the area conducting further enquiries on Tuesday.
A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: “At around 12.10pm yesterday we received a report of suspicious circumstances an unoccupied address on Wordsworth Street, Toxteth.
“Officers attended and located a jar containing preserved human remains at the property.
“Police remain on Wordsworth Street today (Tuesday 10 August), while extensive enquiries are carried out to establish the provenance and age of the remains.”
