Leicester City report Liverpool game racist abuse

Police are set to investigate claims a Leicester City player was racially abused during their game with Liverpool.

The Foxes reported that midfielder Hamza Choudhury suffered the abuse following a challenge on Mohamed Salah in the Reds’ 2-1 victory on Saturday.

Choudhury was booked for the tackle on the Egyptian just minutes after coming on as a substitute for Brendan Rodgers’ side against the European champions.

It has been confirmed that the comments aimed at the 22-year-old were made on social media during the game, which was won by a late James Milner penalty.

“We are appalled by these comments, which the club has reported to the police and to the social media platform on which they were made,” said a Leicester spokesman.

“Discriminatory behaviour has no place in football or in society and we will seek the strongest possible course of action to be taken against those responsible.”

Jurgen Klopp criticised Choudhury’s rashness in his post-match press conference and alluded to a previous tackle he made on Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie in August.

He said: “It’s a challenge I really don’t understand.

“It’s dangerous as hell. I don’t want to cause the boy any problems but he has to calm down. This is not the first situation like this.”

Liverpool are still waiting to learn the full extent of Salah’s injury. The 27-year-old has not been called up by his country for the upcoming international break.
