House near Bootle shooting targeted in ‘arson’

A house in Bootle has been ‘firebombed’ just days after a nearby shooting.

Fire and smoke damage was caused to the property on Norfolk Close as well as a Ford Focus car parked outside in the incident shortly after 3am on Friday.

The occupants of the house escaped unharmed in what detectives believe to be a potential arson attack barely two days after a shooting in Hawthorne Road.

Two men on a motorbike attempted to open fire on a group of people in the area at around 10pm on Wednesday before making off towards Kirkdale.

Police are keeping an open mind as to whether the incidents are linked.

Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: “The investigation is in the very early stages but I would appeal for anyone who was in the area around Norfolk Close in the early hours of this morning who saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us as they may have important information.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
