Tens of thousands of people are expected to line a parade route through the city tomorrow as Liverpool FC bring the Champions League trophy back to the city for the sixth time.
The parade is due to start at 4pm tomorrow and will last for a couple of hours.
The parade will start at Allerton Maze before travelling northbound along Queens Drive tothe Fiveways roundabout and Rocket flyover. From there it will journey along the rest of Queens Drive, Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street, The strand before finishing on Blundell Street.
The city council has key advice for fans:
- Line the full length of the route. There will be no central focal point to the parade
- Decide which part of the route you want to wait at and arrive in plenty of time
- Be patient – it is impossible to predict how long it will take the team bus to travel along the route
- Due to the number of people coming in to and out of the city, there will be significant demands on public transport, with queuing likely
- Motorists are advised that the city centre is expected to be extremely busy, with this in mind they should plan their journeys in and out of the city carefully.
Superintendent Mark Wiggins said: “Should the parade take place we would expect a large number of people to gather along the route. We will be supporting Liverpool City Council, who are organising the event, with the running and policing on the day to ensure the event goes ahead safely and disruption to regular road users and people living and visiting the city is minimal.
“Officers will be on hand on Sunday afternoon to provide a reassuring presence and making sure the day is not only one to remember, but also an enjoyable and safe event for all those attending the parade.
“Rolling road closures will be put in place to accommodate the parade and although we will work with Liverpool City Council to keep disruption to a minimum, some traffic disruption is inevitable and we would ask motorists to be patient, or avoid the area of parade route if possible.
“If you have plans already for Sunday (27th May) or are going to be driving in and out of the area, I would ask you to make yourselves aware of which roads will be affected so you can fully prepare, make alternative travel arrangements in advance, or use available public transport wherever possible.
“We wish Liverpool every success and are proud of their achievements this season whatever the outcome.”
The gathering of crowds along the route will cause disruption to the transport network, both in the period up to the start of the parade, during it and afterwards as services work to get back to normal.
In addition, Sunday service provision, with some engineering works on the rail network, will mean that the transport network is extremely busy.
